Visiting Researcher positions in Linköping, Sweden

Within the European Commission's IST research project MUHCI (http://poseidon.csd.auth.gr/Projects/muhci/), the Linköping University has an opportunity to invite researchers to work on areas related to human-centered interfaces. This is a wide research area involving both image and audio analysis and synthesis, as well as networking and communication, all going towards a natural, human-like interface involving Virtual Characters.

We invite applications from motivated post-doc and advanced-pre-doc researchers for Visiting Researcher positions with typical duration of 6-12 months. We offer a competitive salary, as well as relocation, home and conference travel benefits. The candidates must be nationals of EU or an associated state, or have resided in such states for a minimum of 5 years. 3-D Graphics Developers

OmniViz, Inc. a new Battelle spin-out company is a leader in providing innovative data mining and visualization-based solutions to the bio-tech, life science and chemical industries. OmniViz is seeking several 3-D Graphics Developers to join our team based in Maynard, MA . You will be responsible for:

  • Developing user interfaces and graphic visualizations utilizing Java 3D and Java 2D, that will work across various graphic cards and operating systems.
  • Creating GUI applications within several different development environments, such as Windows/MFC or Java/Swing.
  • Paying special attention to scene graphs, interfaces to graphics libraries, performance, multi-threading, window management, and import/export formats.
  • Design and implementation of public APIs.
  • Designing specialized data filtering tools utilizing Java and performing code optimization activities utilizing Optimizit or similar tool.
  • Working with HCI and Usability experts to determine the best possible in interface design and usability, as well as with Product Assurance and Customer Support groups to resolve software issues.
  • Participate actively in the entire software development life cycle, which includes: developing technical specifications, coding, testing, debugging and writing technical documentation.

Job Requirements:

  • 2+ years experience in software product development and participation in at least one product release.
  • Experience developing graphics and visualizations utilizing Java 2D/3D or OpenGL.
  • Solid understanding of more than one windowing and event API, such as the Win32 SDK, X Windows, or Macintosh Toolbox.
  • Experience with object oriented design methodologies.
  • Experience with complex Statistical / Mathematical computations.
  • BS/MS in Mathematics, Computer Science or Computer Engineering .

Director of the Institute for Simulation and Training (IST) of the University of Central Florida (UCF), Orlando, Fl

The University of Central Florida is seeking an internationally recognized leader to further the development of research and education in computer-based simulation and training. Beginning in the Fall of 2001, as the Director of the Institute for Simulation and Training, he/she will represent and coordinate the University¹s activities in modeling, simulation and training.

The University¹s objective is to expand its academic offerings, research, service and technology transfer opportunities in this strategic area. Building on its established expertise in Defense programs, the University is seeking a forward looking innovator, to lead the Institute into new areas of opportunity such as health care, transportation, and entertainment. The new Director will provide leadership in the introduction of a new Doctoral program in Modeling and Simulation.

With a staff of over 125, the Institute¹s financial support consists of both core University funding, and external grants and contracts, principally from the Federal Government. Expenditures in the current fiscal year are estimated to be over $8 Million. The University¹s aggregate research expenditures in areas relevant to Simulation and Training exceed $13 Million.

The University of Central Florida is a major public institution of higher education with over 33,000 students. The University has strong research programs in several areas related to the growing high-technology industries in Central Florida, including Human Factors, Psychology, Computer Science and Engineering, Photonics and Optics, and Microelectronics.

The Director of IST will report to the Vice-President for Research at UCF. Minimum qualifications are an earned doctorate in a relevant area. Other requirements include an understanding of the relevant technical and scientific issues, demonstrated support and sensitivity to multi-disciplined research activity, strong leadership, management and interpersonal skills, and a record of securing research funding. Preference will be given to candidates who can hold a senior appointment in an academic department, have a distinguished record of research, and who have demonstrated a genuine interest in education, training and academia.
